Our Pre-School

Wick Pre-School is registered to take a maximum of 38 children at one time.  Children can join us anytime from the age of 2 years.  After joining us most continue to attend until the start of reception class at school.

We currently employ 12 members of staff. At each session we maintain a ratio of 1 qualified person to every 8 children aged 3 and upwards and 1 qualified person to every 4 children aged under 3 years.

We operate a Keyperson system which means that each child in our care is assigned to a member of staff.  The Keyperson will ensure the individual needs of your child are met and they will work with you to ensure that your child is happy and stimulated during their time at pre-school.  When your child first starts pre-school, the Keyperson will help your child to settle in and spend time getting to know your child.

In accordance with Ofsted, your child's Keyperson will make regular observations, assessments and evaluate your child's achievements and progress to ensure that their next steps are clearly identified and planned for.

If your child is starting school in September, we can work with parents to provide a full days childcare where we can drop off or collect them at lunchtime when they are only doing half a day at school.  If this is of interest to you, please speak to someone in the Pre-School office for more information.

Wick Pre-School is registered with Ofsted, EY341261.

After obtaining grant funding in 2009 we now operate from the village hall cottage which has been renovated specifically to be used as a pre-school. Internally we have 3 rooms on 2 floors.

Room 1 Little Monkeys 2-3 year olds

Room 2 Hedgehogs 3 year olds

Room 3 Busy Bees 4 year olds

Outside we have a secure garden area where all the children enjoy playing.

Our garden provides plenty of room for outdoor play and provides the area for our annual sports day to which all parents and carers are invited. We have a garden/allotment area where the children are encouraged to help with planting and harvesting and a sensory garden area where the children can experience different textures and scents. We also have our own ducks which the children help to look after.

We try to do as much outdoor play as possible whilst taking into account the weather! We ask parents to provide wellies and a rain coat to enable us to be outside if the weather is a bit grey and drizzly!
